What is Smooth Stone?

The smooth stone is a refined variant of the regular stone with a cleaner and lighter texture. While mining stone in Minecraft, you will get cobblestone most of the time unless you’re using a pickaxe with the Silk Touch enchantment. And, there is no way to get smooth stone from mining in the game. The smooth stone has a special crafting recipe, and it requires a furnace instead of a crafting table. This is why you couldn’t find its recipe in the crafting book.

Stone vs Smooth Stone Minecraft

Stone is naturally generated in Minecraft and has a rough texture. In contrast, the smooth stone has a polished look rather than the visible speckles in the usual stone. This makes it perfect for uniform builds. That said, keep reading below to find out the materials required and how you can make smooth stone in Minecraft.

Materials Required to Craft Smooth Stone

Making a smooth stone in Minecraft is quite easy and only requires the following resources:

Regular cobblestone blocks Furnace Fuel (of your choice)

How to Make Smooth Stone in Minecraft: Step-by-Step

Can you really craft a smooth stone? Well, you cannot technically craft a smooth stone, but rather get it from smelting it in a furnace. So, once you have collected the required resources, check out the crafting, or should we say, smelting recipe of smooth stone:

Smelt Cobblestone into Stone

The first step involves smelting the cobblestone to get regular stone in Minecraft. You can skip this step if you mined stone blocks using a Silk Touch pickaxe. But, if you don’t have that, follow the steps below to get regular stone:

Place a furnace on the ground and right-click on it to open its interface. Add fuel to the bottom slot and place a cobblestone in the top slot. Now wait for some time to smelt it into regular stone.

Smelt Stone into Smooth Stone

Having got a stack of regular stone, you can now follow the steps below to get smooth stone in Minecraft:

On the same furnace block, right-click to open its UI. Add the fuel in the bottom slot on the left side. Then, place stone block(s) in the upper slot on the left. After a few seconds, the arrow in the center will start filling up, and a stone block will be smelted and turned into a smooth stone block, which appears in the right slot. To take the smooth stone block out of the furnace, click on it and move it to your inventory.

Where to Find Smooth Stone Naturally in Minecraft

Minecraft allows you to obtain most blocks and items in at least two different ways. That’s also the case for the smooth stone block. So, besides smelting, you can find smooth stone in the following places:

Butcher’s houses in villages (plains, savanna, snowy plains Minecraft biomes) Chest in the mason’s house in the villages.

All Uses of Smooth Stone in Minecraft

Now that you have obtained smooth stone, let’s see what uses this block has in the game:

Crafting Ingredient

A full smooth stone block appears in two crafting recipes. One of them is for the blast furnace. It’s a furnace variant that smelts ores and metals twice as quickly as a regular furnace. The catch, however, is that it can only smelt those items and nothing else. If you would like to learn how to make a blast furnace in Minecraft, go through our linked guide.

Making Smooth Stone Slabs

A smooth stone slab is the other crafting recipe that requires you to use the smooth stone block. It behaves much like other slabs in the game. You will need 3 smooth stone blocks to craft 6 smooth stone slabs. Placing them in any row of the crafting table completes the smooth stone slab recipe. The smooth stone slab itself is a part of a crafting recipe for an armor stand. Follow the link to our guide, where we explain how you can make this entity. If you’re going the crafting table route, you will need at least 3 smooth stone blocks to craft at least a single smooth stone slab. However, the stonecutter route is so much more efficient, as the ratio of the smooth stone blocks and smooth stone slabs is 1:2. This means a single block of smooth stone is enough to craft its slab variant. So, when you’re working with different types of stone blocks, always use a stonecutter. Here is a quick comparison to choose the better option:

Building Block & Decoration Ideas

Despite the two mentioned uses, the primary use of a smooth stone block and its slab variant is as a building block. It’s a pretty block that’s pleasant to look at. Its light and bright gray texture makes it a good option for any floor design. Moreover, it pairs nicely with the glass and stone bricks. Furthermore, since you make it in a furnace, it can be a good addition to the super smelter or a forge room. Due to its highly polished appearance, it can even be used as a decorative piece that’s meant to represent a thoroughly processed material. Try using it in the following use cases:

Modern house flooring: Use smooth stone for base floors, balconies, or side porches in modern builds. This light gray tone looks good when combined with glass panes. Forge Rooms: The smooth stone fits perfectly with the smelter rooms and blacksmith interiors. Minimalist Interiors: For players who love clean interiors, using smooth stone slabs can create a sleek aesthetic when paired with concrete block.

Smooth Stone: IDs & Game Information

Looking for some information on the smooth stone IDs and in-game information, here is a table that satisfies all your needs: Given below is a table for the breaking time required by all variants of a pickaxe in Minecraft: With that said, now you know how to make smooth stone blocks and how you can use them in your Minecraft builds. The slab in particular allows for some amazing designs that you should look into if you’re making a medieval stony build. Name Email ID
