God of War TV Series Cast: Who’s Confirmed and Who’s Rumored to Play a Role
Before we begin, here is a quick overview of the God of War show cast members so far, from the confirmed Ryan Hurst to the latest Danny Woodburn and Jeff Gulka casting:
Ryan Hurst as Kratos
Ever since the adaptation was announced in 2022, the world has wondered who would be the perfect fit to play the Ghost of Sparta in the God of War live-action series. Prime Video has revealed that Ryan Hurst will play Kratos in the upcoming God of War TV show. This was a surprise as Ryan earlier portrayed Thor, one of Kratos’ adversaries in the GOW: Ragnarok game. Apart from this role, Ryan Hurst is well known for his roles as Harry ‘Opie’ Winston in the Sons of Anarchy, Beta in The Walking Dead, Li’l Foster Farrell in Outsiders, and many more. Now, Ryan is abandoning the Mjolnir and picking up the Leviathan axe. After leaving Greece, Kratos begins a new life in the Norse lands and goes on a life-changing journey to the highest peak in Jötunheim with his son, Atreus, to spread his late wife’s ashes.
Teresa Palmer as Sif
Right after Kratos casting announcement, a new report from Variety has confirmed that Teresa Palmer is set to play ‘Sif’ in the God of War live-action show. The Australian actress is popular among fans for her roles as Julie in Warm Bodies, Diana Bishop in A Discovery of Witches, and Isabelle Heatherington in The Family Next Door, among others. Sif is Thor’s wife and Odin’s Daughter-in-law in the GOW games. She is the Norse Goddess of Wheat, Grain, Earth, Harvest, Family, Beauty, Fertility, and more in the nine realms. Sif only appears in the sequel, God of War: Ragnarok, but it seems the live-action series will be handling the story and characters in chronological order.
Max Parker as Heimdall
Earlier, the rumors suggested that Max Parker was tapped to play Baldur Odinson, Thor’s half-brother. However, Prime Video has now confirmed that Max Parker will play ‘Heimdall’ in the God of War TV series. The American actor recently stole the spotlight with his role as Sgt. Sullivan in Netflix’s Boots. Furthermore, Max Parker is also known for his roles as Luke Posner in Emmerdale and Mikhail Tanner in Vampire Academy. Heimdall is the God of Foresight, blessed with the ability to see into the future. Unlike in the MCU, Heimdall is actually a main antagonist in the God of War series. So, we can look forward to Max Parker taking on an antagonistic role in the GOW live-action.
Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor
The Norse mythology isn’t complete without the God of Thunder, Thor. Since Ryan Hurst switched to play Kratos in live-action, the door was open for a new actor to play Thor. After a brief silence, Prime Video has confirmed Thor’s casting. Ólafur Darri Ólafsson is officially set to play Thor in the God of War TV show, as numerous reliable sources previously suggested. Ólafur captivated the audience recently with his performance as Mr. Drummond in Apple TV’s Severance series. In addition, he is also best known for his performances in Trapped, Somebody Somewhere, etc. Thor is also one of Odin’s sons and serves as a violent enforcer of his father’s will throughout the story. Thus, Thor is one more antagonist Kratos will face off against in the God of War live-action series.
Mandy Patinkin as Odin
The central figure of the Norse mythology is All-Father, Odin Borsson. Richard Schiff played the king of Aesir in the GOW: Ragnarok game, and fans have been waiting to see if he will reprise his role in the live-action as well. However, that is not the case as Prime Video has revealed that the veteran actor, Mandy Patinkin, will play Odin in the upcoming live-action God of War series. Mandy Patinkin became an extremely popular figure in the 80s for his performance as Inigo Montoya in the classic fantasy tale, The Princess Bride. Then Mandy is well-known for his role as Saul Berenson in the Homeland series. Now, Mandy is all set to win over the fans once again in his career, but this time by playing a major antagonist in GOW live-action.
Alastair Duncan as Mimir
Just as the rumors claimed, Alastair Duncan, who played Mimir in the God of War games, is set to reprise his role in the God of War live-action series. Alastair is a veteran Scottish actor who has worked in movies, TV shows, and video games throughout his career. Some of his best roles include Alfred Pennyworth in the Batman: The Animated Series, Celebrimbor in the Middle-earth games, and The President in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach (review). Mimir is the smartest man alive in the Norse realms and served as Odin’s advisor. In GOW, he eventually becomes Krato’s ally, guiding him in his journey. Fans are eager to see how Alastair will recreate his iconic performance as Mimir in the live-action now.
Danny Woodburn as Brok
Prime Video has finally announced the casting for the Smithing Brothers today, starting with Danny Woodburn as Brok in God of War live-action. Danny Woodburn, the actor and comedian, has worked in a wide range of movies and TV shows in his career. His prominent roles are Mickey Abbott in Seinfeld and Zoltan Chivay in Netflix’s The Witcher. So, it is the second time Danny is working in a live-action adaptation of a popular video game franchise. Brok is a renowned dwarven blacksmith, along with brother Sindri, who created Kratos’ Leviathan Axe and Thor’s Mjolnir in the story. In the story, Brok primarily helps out Kratos and his son Atreus in their journey with weapon upgrades, navigation, etc., and he plays a much bigger role in the sequel.
Jeff Gulka as Sindri
Jeff Gulka is confirmed to portray the legendary blacksmith in the God of War live-action series. The actor is previously known for his roles as Gibson Andrew Praise in The X-Files, Charlie in Stargate SG-1, and more. Sindri is another important ally of Kratos and Atreus, assisting them on their journey, like his brother Brok in the games. Sindri’s role also becomes more significant in the events of Ragnarok in the sequel game. Therefore, let us wait and see how Prime Video is going to approach the tale of the dwarven blacksmith brothers in GOW live-action. That’s everything we know about the cast of the live-action God of War series at the moment. There are many more cast members to be revealed for roles such as Atreus, Freya, Baldur, Odin, etc. As the casting is underway, we will get to meet the new cast in the near future.
